CHICAGO ARTISTS' MONTH EVENTS

This year, the 6th of October marks not only another birthday for me, but also the opening of my 2nd Annual Open Studio Event and a very special group exhibition entitled Community Watch, featuring a selection of 10 artists who I have connected with aesthetically and personally during my career in Chicago. This event will provide an opportunity to both get a glimpse at works in progress in my studio and at some of the artists who influence my life and work. The event will kick-off with an opening night party on Friday, October 6 from 6-10 and continue with an open house on Saturday, October 7 from 2-10. See my Exhibitions page for more information and The Community page for weblinks of featured artists and more.

This year I am participating in a cornerstone event of Chicago Artist's Month, the Chicago Artists Coalition's Chicago Art Open, considered one of the largest exhibitions of Chicago art under one roof. Now in its 9th year, the Art Open will be held on the 2nd floor of the Zhou B Center in Bridgeport from October 17-November 4. The opening benefit on Friday, October 20th, will feature the music of local band Graymail, for whom my talented partner and web developer, Andrew Tibbetts, is a guitarist. Additional information on both events will be sent shortly, but in the meantime, please see my Exhibitions page for more information.

SUMMER SHOWS SUMMARY

This summer's exhibition season was a ton of fun. It was great catching up with many of you and making a few new friends. Thank you to everyone who came out to see the shows. If you weren't able see them, you can view images through my Exhibitions page.

The Luscious and Stark exhibitions at Stephen Kelly Gallery brought about the sale of Diptych No. 5, a pair of canvases together spanning 4 x 6', and Print No. 185, a mixed media monoprint using drypoint etching and collage, to first-time collectors of my work. The recent Around the Coyote festival also brought about the sale of Small Panel No. 5, a small wooden piece using acrylic and collage, and giclee print 1 of 50 of Large Canvas No. 1, also to new collectors of my work. Images from my collectors are available on The Community page.

AI GALLERY AND ARCHIVAL IMAGING

My new fine art giclee prints, printed by Archival Imaging on high quality watercolor paper, with amazing color accuracy, were a hit at the ATC festival. Prints are now available for sale through my website using Paypal, just click on the Ai logo next to available works in The Artwork section of my website, or visit my Giclee Print page. Prints are also available from me (email me from my Contact page) or from Ai Gallery.

The Genuine Moment exhibition at Ai Gallery, featuring Kristen Neveu, Nelson Kahikina and I, recently received an excellent review from Josh Tyson for Time Out Chicago. A copy of the full review and images are available through my Publicity page. The opening reception was a blast, complete with chocolate fountain and a lively crowd. The show remains on view until the 25th of September. Ai Gallery's next show features You Are Beautiful's I Am You Are book project.

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL LETTERS INSTALLATION

The latest You Are Beautiful installation consists of 160 different letters handcrafted by Chicago artists, spelling out "you are beautiful" 10 times in 9 different languages. The one of a kind letters span the entire length of the State Street pedestrian walkway between Washington and Randolph, complimenting the You Are Beautiful mural, which I had the pleasure of helping out with last year, and which is installed just above, on top of the construction scaffolding.

You Are Beautiful is propelled by the efforts of many artists from Chicago and beyond. Through stickers, exhibitions, street installations and other projects such as You Are I am books (which will be on display at Ai Gallery for the month of October) the simple but powerful message "you are beautiful" is interpreted by artists and audiences the world over. Part of the stated mission of You Are Beautiful is to "...make a difference in the world by catching us in the midst of daily life and creating moments of positive self realization." Visit the You Are Beautiful website for more information.
